The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) invites tenure-track Hispanic Faculty to participate in the 2008 AAHHE National Conference: "Building Pathways - Construyendo Caminos: Fulfilling Expectations." The conference will be held March 6-8, 2008, at the Hyatt Regency Miami, Miami, Florida.
AAHHE is committed to providing opportunities for tenure-track Hispanic faculty in order to ensure the success of Hispanics in higher education. Faculty Fellows should be committed to issues of Latino student access and success in higher education. If you are interested in being a Faculty Fellow, the opportunities are two-fold: be a mentor for Graduate Fellows and be mentored by successful faculty and higher education administrators.
Faculty Fellows who participate in the 2008 AAHHE conference provide mentorship to Hispanic Graduate Fellows in such areas as dissertation management, first-career options, publication, and navigating the tenure process. This mentoring takes place in the form of panels, informal discussions, and workshops. This mentoring process requires that Faculty Fellows share their own graduate school experiences in an effort to help Graduate Fellows navigate the graduate school process.
Faculty Fellows, because they are on a tenure track, understand the pressures of research and publications. They also feel a passion for devoting time and energy to the Latino Community on campus and beyond campus. Finding the balance between these is sometimes difficult. But without tenure, Latino faculty can neither become role models for incoming Latino students nor aspire to administrative roles in higher education. Thus, AAHHE is committed to mentoring Faculty Fellows by providing opportunities for Faculty Fellows to meet, talk with and find possibilities for doing research with prominent and already well-established Hispanic researchers. Faculty Fellows will have opportunities to network with higher education administrators such as presidents, provosts, vice-presidents, deans, etc. |
