Associate or Assistant Professor of Communications Disorders Closing Date: Department: Communications Disorders Location: San Antonio, Texas Job Description: The Communication Disorders Program is celebrating its fiftieth year of existence and is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2006, at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. CDIS was the first graduate program in Texas to receive ASHA accreditation of the master’s program in 1967. The department is housed in the Harry Jersig Center and is a small, collegial department with 4 FTE faculty positions and 6 clinical faculties. The primary interests of our current teaching faculty members are in bilingual language development/disorders, child language disorders and augmentative communication. Besides the typical coursework associated with an accredited program we provide coursework in Medical Speech Pathology, Language in Discourse, Pediatric Oral Motor Feeding, and Bilingual Language Development. CDIS oversees the Harry Jersig Center, a free-standing speech and hearing clinic. Assessment and intervention services are provided at the Center and at off-campus contract sites staffed by CDIS clinical faculty. Currently the clinic population is primarily preschool and school-age children; however, CDIS has established a relationship with various departments within the University of Texas Health Science Center that could lead to additional clinical services and research opportunities with adult clients. Position Requirements: Candidates must hold a Ph.D. and be prepared to teach and do research in areas related to medical speech-language pathology, such as adult neurogenics disorders, dysphagia or voice disorders. This position also requires advising graduate students and some clinical supervision, therefore the CCC-SLP is preferred. Review of candidates will begin immediately. Applications received after March 15 may be reviewed for future consideration. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
