Carmen Curiel currently serves as the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Care Services. In this capacity she provides non-clinical case management services that connect students with resources related to academic stress, mental health services, housing, food, and financial insecurity. She helps students navigate a range of university policies and procedures to reduce barriers and increase access to services. Her work in higher education has focused primarily on first generation students, leadership development, diversity and intercultural communication, students in distress, and basic needs services. She joined Cal State Fullerton in 2000 as a counselor in Student Academic Services, where she advised students in the Educational Opportunity Program. Since then, she has held several other positions including Coordinator of the American Humanics Program, Coordinator of America Reads and Counts, Student Life Coordinator, Director of Honors & Scholars Support Services, Director of the Multicultural Leadership Center, and Interim Director of Diversity Initiatives and Resource Centers. Prior to arriving at CSUF, Carmen worked at the Harvey Mudd College Upward Bound Program and was a counselor at Paramount High School. She earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from Harvard University.
