Edward Delgado

Edward Delgado-Romero, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services at the College of Education of the University of Georgia. He is the former Associate Department Chair, Graduate Coordinator and Director of Training for Counseling Psychology. He is also a Licensed Psychologist in Georgia.

Dr. Delgado-Romero's parents were both immigrants to the United States from Colombia. He attended Rhodes College in Memphis TN for his undergraduate degree in psychology and received his doctorate at the University of Notre Dame after completing his pre-doctoral internship at Michigan State University. He has previously worked at the University of Florida and Indiana University.

Dr. Delgado-Romero is a founder and past-president of the National Latina/o Psychological Association. He was named a padrino/elder of NLPA and was named a Fellow of the American Psychological Association through Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity and Race (Division 45) and the Society of Counseling Psychology (17). In 2011 he was awarded the Early Career Award for Psychology in the Public Interest by APA and in 2013 he received the Distinguished Career Contributions to Research from Division 45.

Dr. Delgado-Romero has served on several national and international editorial boards and is currently an associate editor of the Journal of Latina/o Psychology. He has written extensively in the field of counseling psychology and in multicultural psychology, specifically Latina/o Psychology.

Dr. Delgado-Romero enjoys mentoring graduate students and has actively presented and written with his advisees. His research team, BIEN! (bienresearch.coe.uga.edu) is a collaborative effort to fuse research and service. Dr. Delgado-Romero emphasizes the need for psychological research to “give back” to ethnic-minority and immigrant populations. He has mentored 27 PhD students to date and counts 15 Latino/a doctoral students as current students or alumni.

Dr. Delgado-Romero started two clinical placements during 2016. The first is a psychological clinic at the Athens Latino Center for Education and Success (ALCES) and the second is the IMPACT interdisciplinary team at Mercy Health Center. In both settings he provides and supervises low to no cost psychological counseling and assessment to Spanish speaking clients. He supervises a team of 10 bilingual clinicians.

Dr. Delgado-Romero is a father of five and married to Angela Romero-Shih. His household is a happily blended family consisting of Colombian/Greek/Irish/Dutch/Chinese heritage. Life is never boring with the crew of Javier, Isa, Nick, Emma and Gil.
