ETS/AAHHE Undergraduate Fellowship Program

There will not be an Undergraduate Fellowship Program for the 2023-2024 cycle.

2022-2023 UFP Information

The primary goal of the inaugural ETS/AAHHE Undergraduate Fellowship Program (UFP) is to increase Latina/o/x undergraduate students’ knowledge and understanding of post-baccalaureate options and career readiness through workshops and professionalization. Towards this end, program sub-goals include to: 
  1. Provide strategies to assist fellows in achieving their academic and professional goals 
  2. Expose undergraduate student fellows to the importance of research 
  3. Build a community and network of Latina/o/x mentors and scholars 

Eligibility

To be considered for the UFP applicants must: 
  • Be Latina/o/x enrolled at a 4-year university 
  • Aspire to continue education beyond the baccalaureate degree 
  • Exhibit a track record of service to the Hispanic and/or Latina/o/x community
Upon selection, Undergraduate Fellows will be required to become an AAHHE member ($50). 

Schedule 

ETS/AAHHE Undergraduate Fellows are required to attend and actively participate in all UFP events. The program will begin in January 2023 with monthly webinars until May, including a half-day pre-conference session during the AAHHE 2023 Annual Conference in March 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada (conference expenses are reimbursed up to $1,250). The registration fee for the AAHHE 2023 Annual Pre-Conference and Conference will be waived for Undergraduate Fellows. To conclude, students will engage in preparing holistically for the graduate school admissions process.

Application Process 

  1. Applicants are required to complete and submit an application form via the AAHHE submissions portal no later than Thursday, October 6, 2022, by 5:00 p.m. PDT. 
  2. The following additional documents should be uploaded as ONE PDF at the end of the online application no later than Thursday, October 6, 2022, by 5:00 p.m. PDT. 
    1. Statement of Interest addressing the questions below (max of 1,000 words) 
      • Why are you interested in participating in the ETS/AAHHE 2023 Undergraduate Fellowship Program? 
      • How would the ETS/AAHHE UFP help your professional development access in ways that you don’t have now? 
      • How do your future career goals align with the mission and values of AAHHE and the ETS/AAHHE Undergraduate Fellowship Program? 
      • How do you feel your interests and experiences might enable you to contribute to a national cohort of fellows and the AAHHE membership community as a whole? 
      • How do you plan to give back to your field or area of practice upon earning your degree? 
    2. Academic and/or professional record: 
      • Curriculum Vita or Résumé 
      • Transcripts to the institution you are currently attending and any other institution from which you received a degree 
  3. One letter of support from a) an advisor, lab/center supervisor, or faculty member or b) a community partner or school administrator. Only ONE letter of recommendation per applicant will be considered. Letter recommenders must also upload their letter of recommendation via a separate AAHHE Submission portal by Thursday, October 6, 5:00 PM (PDT). Applicants are responsible for providing their letter recommender with the portal link to upload their letter. Please advise your recommenders to create/update their account prior to the deadline to prevent technical issues or delays in submission. Selection Process 

Each application is reviewed and evaluated by a minimum of two AAHHE graduate and/or faculty fellows program alumni using an evaluation rubric. If there is any inconsistency between the two evaluations, it is reviewed by a third time by a member of the UFP leadership team. The selection of the final undergraduate student fellows is completed by the UFP leadership team in consultation with the AAHHE Board. Diversity of gender identity, race/ethnicity, institutional type, and field of discipline are all taken into consideration when selecting the final cohort.    

Program Requirements 

As an ETS/AAHHE Undergraduate Fellow, you will: 

  • Sign and submit the AAHHE Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) NO LATER than November 18, 2022 (5:00pm PDT). 
  • Become an AAHHE active member (undergraduate student; $50 investment) by January 1, 2023. 
  • Submit your digital professional headshot photo and a 200 maximum word count biography via a Word document using third person by November 18, 2022 via the AAHHE submission portal. Incurred expenses for the high-resolution digital headshot are reimbursable up to $50.   • Participate in ALL required ETS/AAHHE Undergraduate Fellows Programming, including attending the in-person 2023 conference. 
  • Complete all program evaluation surveys. 
  • Make a commitment to AAHHE’s mission and vision and support the various programs and events by volunteering, organizing, and/or leading future AAHHE programs and events.
