AAHHE Writing Workshops
Going From Research to Publication
Friday, October 16, 2026 12:00-2:30pm ET / 9:00-11:30am PT $50 for Members | $75 for Non-Members
Description
Engaging in the research and publication process is vital to the work of faculty and staff in higher education. From the humanities to the STEM fields, tenure-track faculty in particular aim to contribute to new knowledge, inform policy and practice, and advance in their careers through their scholarly contributions. Yet the mentoring and socialization that graduate students and early career faculty receive varies greatly and may not always include a clear understanding or demystification of the research to publication process. This interactive workshop responds to this need, providing a supportive, inclusive space where graduate students and early career faculty across disciplines can build on their understanding about the various steps necessary to go from designing and carrying out a study to identifying a publication outlet and approaching a revise and resubmit disposition. Strategies and tools to deal with challenges associated with these steps, such as collaborating on research, navigating the politics of authorship, and dealing with rejection, will also be shared. The workshop aims to make the implicit aspects of the research to publication process explicit and manageable, providing attendees an opportunity to personalize resources to meet their scholarly goals and needs.
