Dr. Rebecca A. Robles-Pina is a professor at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in the Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling in Huntsville, TX. In 2010, Rebecca was awarded the Sam Houston State University Faculty Excellence in Research Award for her research and grant work. Her research interests are related to Hispanic adolescent depression and resilient factors, social and emotional factors that contribute to dropout situations in ethnic groups, stress and coping factors in ethnic groups, and bullying. Rebecca has made over 200 presentations and has published over 50 journal articles, book chapters, and books.

At SHSU, Rebecca teaches courses related to methods of research, statistics, assessment, and psychology of learning. Internationally, Rebecca serves on several journal editorial boards including the Journal of Latina/o Psychology and for seven years has been the editor of the Journal of At-Risk Issues sponsored by the National Dropout Prevention Center. Additionally, for three years, Rebecca has served as Chair for the American Educational Research Association’s Stress and Coping In Education SIG.

Rebecca has much experience in reviewing dissertations. For example, she has chaired over 30 dissertations and served as a member on more than 20 committees. One of the dissertations comparing students in bilingual education classes to English as a second language classes on state-mandated tests earned the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the American Educational Research Association’s Bilingual Education SIG in 2010.
