for the AAHHE Books of the Year Awards

AAHHE welcomes nominations for the 2025 AAHHE Books of the Year Awards! 

The annual AAHHE Books of the Year Awards recognize and honor the power of the written word at the highest levels of literature and scholarship that shares the Hispanic experience and celebrates Hispanic culture, history and research excellence and are presented to Latinx/a/o authors.

The 2025 AAHHE Books of the Year Awards Call for Nominations is open in the following categories:

Edited Volumes Award – recognizes an edited volume that makes a contribution to Latinx and Education research and scholarship.

Senior Scholar Award – recognizes a book by a senior scholar whose career shows a high level of productivity and excellence and whose career has advanced more than 20 years after receiving a doctoral degree.

Mid-career Award – recognizes a book by a mid-career scholar who’s been recently tenured or who has been in academic or leadership role for 7 to 20 years.

Early Career Award – recognizes a book by an early career scholar whose initial career shows promising levels of productivity and excellence. The winning candidate should have received a doctoral degree no more than seven years before the deadline. The book should have been published within two years of the deadline, and may not have been previously submitted for this award. 

The competition is open to literary works:  

  • By Latinx/a/o writers and scholars who published a book or collection of essays between 2022 – 2024. 
  • That address the imperatives of advancing the educational equity and the talent of the Latinx population with respect to the population of the United States.
  • With the potential to have a significant impact on improving the higher education status of Latinx.
  • Special consideration will be given to early career writers and scholars.

Nomination Process

  • The call for nominations for the 2025 AAHHE Books of the Year Awards opens on Monday, April 15, 2024.
  • The deadline for submission of nominations via the AAHHE Submission portal is Friday, September 6, 2024.
  • An author can be nominated or self-nominated.
  • Reprints, translations, or updated editions of previously published books are ineligible.
  • The AAHHE Awards Selection Committee will be responsible to screen submissions for eligibility.

How to Apply

  • A nomination form must be completed via the AAHHE Submission portal no later than Friday, September 6, 2024 by 11:59 pm ET.
  • Digital book copies are required. After the form has been completed, nominators are required to submit an electronic digital book copy (PDF) via the AAHHE Submission form.
  • If an electronic version of the book is not available, please reach out to [email protected] for the shipping address to send five printed book copies from the publisher. If this option is requested, we must receive the book copies by the end of the day on Friday, September 6, 2024 to be eligible. Book copies received without an online completed form will not be considered.

What recognition will be given to the winners?

Award winners will be presented with an AAHHE Award as they are recognized at the Awards ceremony of the 2025 AAHHE National Conference.  Award winners are required to be available either in-person or virtually to receive the award. Awardees unable to attend the awards ceremony will be linked virtually to the conference. If traveling to the 2025 AAHHE National Conference, no compensation will be provided for the registration fee, travel, lodging, etc.

2025 AAHHE Awards Call for Nominations opens via AAHHE Submission portal.

September 6, 2024
2025 AAHHE Awards Call for Nominations closes. By this date, the nominee’s nomination letter and resume or CV have been submitted via the AAHHE Submission portal and AAHHE has received the digital book copy (required). Please see the How to Apply section if an electronic version of the book is not available.

Early January 2025
Notifications are sent to award winners.

January 16, 2025
By this date, a 200-word maximum biography (MSWord) and a professional photo (JPEG) has been submitted for the award winner via the AAHHE Submission portal (link will open at a later date).

February and March 2025
Announcements will be posted on the AAHHE website and press releases will go out to the AAHHE membership at large.

March 2025
2025 Award winners will be recognized at the awards luncheon at the 2025 AAHHE National Conference.
